How to renew your Oregon RN license
Oregon RN licenses renew every two years by your birthday for $158. As of January 1, 2026 the practice-hours requirement is eliminated; current CE requirements are one hour of pain management every 36 months and two hours of cultural competency every 48 months. A 20-hour general CE requirement begins in 2028.

Requirements
Practice hours: eliminated January 1, 2026. Competency is now CE-based.
Pain management: the 1-hour Oregon Pain Management Commission module every 36 months. The old one-time 7-hour requirement is obsolete. The module is free through the Oregon Health Authority.
Cultural competency: 2 hours every 48 months. Any provider — including free employer courses — qualifies.
OHA workforce survey is required before the portal allows renewal.
From 2028: an additional 20 hours of general CE per cycle.

If you're late
Expired means a $100 delinquent fee plus renewal — and no practice until resolved.
Expired 90+ days: sliding-scale reinstatement CE — 20 hours (90 days–2 years), 30 (2–3), 40 (3–4), 50 (4–5), 60 (5+). Pain-management and cultural-competency hours count toward the totals. Reactivation fee: $160.

- Does Oregon still require practice hours?
- No. The practice-hours requirement was eliminated January 1, 2026. Competency is now demonstrated through CE.
- How much CE do I need in 2026?
- Only the two mandatory topics: 1 hour of pain management every 36 months and 2 hours of cultural competency every 48 months. The 20-hour general CE requirement begins with 2028 renewals.
- Is the 7-hour pain management requirement still a thing?
- No. That was replaced by the OPMC 1-hour module, which recurs every 36 months. It's free through the Oregon Health Authority.
- Is Oregon in the Nurse Licensure Compact?
- No. The 2025 compact bill did not pass. A compact multistate license from another state does not authorize Oregon practice.
